As Cloud and SaaS (Software as a Service) adoption rates increase, data sovereignty becomes a focus. According to a 2013 study commissioned by Microsoft and produced by 452 Research, 68 per cent of organisations will adopt some kind of hybrid cloud model before the end of 2015, a 19 per cent increase over today’s hybrid cloud adoption rates.
The drive towards hybrid cloud outpaces both on-premises private or public clouds, which is set to increase by nine per cent over the next two years, and hosted public or private clouds, which is forecast to grow by 11 per cent over the same period. The study, The New Era of Hosted Services, includes responses from more than 1,500 businesses of all sizes in ten countries.
The research showed that more than 52% of organisations are turning to the cloud for business growth; to introduce new products or services to the market faster, to support regional or global growth and to support the development of new types of applications.
It showed that the core drivers for focusing on the cloud were:
- 32% are realigning for the next stage of organisational strategy
- 26% have a “do more with less” business objective
- 20% are rapidly investing in new growth
The research also showed that two-thirds of organisations already use SaaS (Software as a Service), like CRM or analytics applications, as replacements for software they used to run in-house. Integrating hosted SaaS with on-premise, hybrid or private cloud requires a layer of expertise to manage concerns around compliance, privacy, security and data residency and sovereignty.
For example, is your data going to reside (or be replicated) locally or overseas? If the latter, does it fall under their legal jurisdiction, who’s security governance is in place, how is privacy impacted and does it meet your compliance requirements?
As blueAPACHE own our complete emPOWER Cloud technology environment, we can ensure your data sovereignty remains local – whether this is your cloud storage, replication or backups.
